Asia is developing. As the largest continent with bulk of
population, Asia rapid growing is incredible nowadays. Asia and America-and-Europe
identically have a large development between as it tremendous developed just centralize
in three well known Asian developed countries, Japan, Korea and China, otherwise
west world diverge in almost their area. Given the pivot to increase the
balance number of developed countries between east-west, here the role of youth
in Asia should be strengthen.
Asia Pacific region is home to over 45% of the world’s
youth, amounting to around 700 million people. This may be notified that if the
amount of youth who have appropriate role can do collaborate with the
government, country’s significant improvement may not be delusional. International
Labor Organization (ILO) has been active in this initiatives which involves
senior policymaker addressing problems associated with youth issues. Taking
some instances, in 2003, Indonesian government set up the Indonesia Youth
Employment Network while youth parliament in Timor Leste had been influencing
decision making process at the national level. In Sri Lanka, however, the
national youth service council provides multiple platform for youth engagement
in national development process.
Youth in Asia nowadays also raise its effort for defining
the future sustainable agenda for nation development. For example, Indian youth
are actively volunteering to promote their people awareness on water
sanitation-and-hygiene issues or youth leaders throughout central Asia initiate
the biodiversity preservation in their country. Across Asia and the Pacific,
young people are getting actively involved in volunteerism to promote the
development communities, including relief efforts and reconstruction following
natural disasters, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the earthquake-and-tsunami of
early 2011 in Japan. On the other hand, in several parts of Asia and the
Pacific, some forums are being provided so that youth can exchange experiences
and ideas to enhance their participation in the process of social and economic
advancement. Several countries in Central Asia had been doing this in the
context of enhancing youth participation in the development and decision making
processes in order to reach the Millennium Development Goals and to resolve
crucial public issued including health,
education, employment and corruption.
As far as I am concern, Asian youth also did their role with
advance in their interested field thus for reaching far more development, it
needs to be strengthen. Given the efforts to increase the enormous potential
for economic growth and social development in countries with large of youth
population, United Nation Population Fund (UNPFA) made discussion about right
investment in human and social capital for youth. Youth
are easily seduced by evil doctrines, as they are by positive and constructive
ideologies so youth can be a country weakness also.
When large youth population can be country strength, a
benefit in rapid economic growth in countries experiencing the demographic
transition called demographic dividend which creates a more productive economy
in a state facing fewer costs associated with non-worker, like children and
elderly, would be possible. So how to make it true? The youth have to
responsible to actualize themselves in order to be the future leader with
sophisticated trainings or educational experiences. Youth
look is not only for livelihood, but for dignity and for purpose and meaning
their lives.
